The foundation s purpose is to promote respect and equal treatment to all races or all differences. Ruby bridges was born in tylertown mississippi in 1954. She then went to other schools to promote cultural understanding through community service so that racism can hopefully be eliminated.

The foundation s primary initiative is to create a school in the william frantz elementary building that will serve as a model for integration and equity in education. In 1999 bridges formed the ruby bridges foundation headquartered in new orleans. The ruby bridges foundation had a vision to give kids an equal opportunity to succeed. Remember in 1954 the united states supreme court declared state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white students.
